Odie was first seen in the newspapers on the 8th of August 1978. The story was that Jon's friend, Lyman, came unexpectantly, with Odie, and stayed for 3 weeks. When he left, he forgot about Odie and left him behind.

Garfield and Odie never really get along but they're best friends. According to Garfield, It took Odie three years to learn how to breath, but that would be a bit hard. Odie is really a dense, low IQ, slobbering mutt, brain not included, but we all love him. Why? Because which dog doesn't really care about life? Which dog can always manage to get Garfield back? Which dog can have a blanket put over his head and think that it's night time? Odie of course.
